Renée Boynton-Jarrett, MD, ScD Principal Investigator
Renée Boynton-Jarrett, MD, ScD Principal Investigator
Renée Boynton-Jarrett is a practicing primary care pediatrician at Boston Medical Center, a social epidemiologist and the founding director of the Vital Village Community Engagement Network. Through the Vital Village Network, she is supporting the development of community-based strategies to promote child well-being in three Boston neighborhoods. She joined the faculty at Boston University School of Medicine in 2007 and is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. She received her AB from Princeton University, her MD from Yale School of Medicine, ScD in Social Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health, and completed residency in Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her work focuses on the role of early-life adversities as life course social determinants of health. She has a specific interest in the intersection of community violence, intimate partner violence, and child abuse and neglect and neighborhood characteristics that influence these patterns.

Clare Viglione, MPH, RDN Research Manager
Clare graduated from Columbia University in 2013 with an MPH. At Columbia, Clare worked in the Population and Family Health Department on the Getting Ready for School project and on SKIP!, the toddler physical activity intervention in Early Head Start. Clare has also held research positions with Harvard Prevention Research Center and New York University in addition to health education roles with Harlem Children’s Zone and the Department of Health. Clare also recently completed a Dietetic Internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Clare ultimately plans to pursue a PhD to develop cost-effective familial interventions targeting social-emotional development and childhood obesity.

Marisol De Ornelas, MSPH Research Associate
Marisol De Ornelas has a Master of Science in Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health. Marisol’s passion for public health began while growing up in her home country, Venezuela, and experiencing first hand the devastating consequences of health inequity. She is passionate about the development, evaluation, and dissemination of public health interventions that focus on early childhood development and education. More broadly, her public health interests include environmental justice, translational research, public policy, Latinx communities, nutrition, and child and maternal health.

Milan Chuttani Data Analyst
Milan Chuttani Data Analyst
Milan Chuttani is a public health professional focused on spatial analytics, data visualization, and web development. Milan graduated from Dartmouth College in 2018 with a B.A. in Government and a minor in Computer Science. Prior to joining Vital Village Network, Milan completed a fellowship at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, developing web applications and GIS tools to support the COVID-19 pandemic response and public health initiatives for globally mobile populations. Milan enjoys transforming spatial, qualitative, and quantitative data into compelling narratives that promote health equity.

Hassan Lubega Research Coordinator
Hassan Lubega graduated from Boston University in 2020 with a bachelor's in science in Behavior & Health from the Sargent College of Health Sciences and Rehabilitation. He particularly focused his studies on minority health disparities, and he values the importance of bringing an intersectional lens to healthcare. After working on the CK-Ready Team as a research intern, he joined the permanent staff and is excited to have the opportunity to continue to work with the study.

Sarah X Rojas-Rogalewicz, MS Research Associate
Sarah X. Rojas-Rogalewicz is a healthcare professional with research interests that focus on the relationship of race and ethnicity to language, cognition, and health-related quality of life. She previously worked in diverse capacities in pediatric neuroimaging research, EEG research, and social work services outside Philadelphia. Most recently, Sarah assisted in multiple MRI studies including (ECHO) Environmental Influences on Childhood Outcomes at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Born in Colombia and raised in Miami, Florida, she received her MS in Neuroscience at Columbia University, and BS in Communication Science Disorders from Pennsylvania State University. Her experience and passion for language justice is multifaceted involving advocacy, multilingualism, cultural awareness, and interpretation. Currently, Sarah is a Master of Speech Language Pathology candidate at Boston University with a commitment to helping marginalized populations with limited resources and accessibilities.

Ishaan Shah Americorps VISTA
Ishaan Shah graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2020, with a degree in Political Science. In the past, he has worked for California’s Department of Healthcare Services, the Odom-John Lab at Washington University School of Medicine, and Kol Rinah Early Childhood Center as a teacher’s assistant. He previously worked for the CK-READY Study through Gephardt’s Civic Scholars program in an effort to better understand the social, financial, emotional, and physical barriers that mothers and their families during the postpartum period. He is excited to rejoin the study as a full-time Americorps VISTA to learn more about community-based participatory research, civic engagement, and children’s and family advocacy. In 2021, Ishaan will be joining the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine as a medical student.

Yeelin Bacchus Senior Research Assistant Intern
Yeelin Bacchus is a junior at Boston University studying Health Science. She is also the President of Period Club, nonprofit organization dedicated to combating period poverty and stigma. In the past, she’s interned at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research under a postdoctoral researcher studying the decline in human fertility through fruit flies. She’s excited to be involved in research with the CK Ready Study and looking at ways to improve the delivery of healthcare. She’s passionate about health equity and creating inclusive and collaborative environments for patients and their healthcare providers. In her spare time, she does martial arts, rows and knits.

Aileen Rodriguez Volunteer Research Assistant Intern
Aileen Rodriguez is a junior at Boston University studying Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. She is excited to join the C-K-Ready study as a research assistant and aid in promoting health equity through recognizing and researching the importance of early childhood development programs in public health. Aileen is interested in the impacts of socioeconomically variable environments on children’s language development and hopes to become a speech-language pathologist working with bilingual Spanish-English populations.

Helena Lanna Volunteer Research Assistant Intern - BU UROP Award Recipient
Helena Lanna is a senior studying Health Science at Boston University and doing an Accelerated Masters program at BU School of Public Health, focusing in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Her interest in public health began in her youth growing up moving around, from her home country Brazil to the Netherlands, Peru and the U.S., and seeing the effects of socioeconomic inequalities, health systems, government policies, and community health support in different countries. In the past, she worked in a study exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on lower-income elders living in subsidized housing, interviewing Spanish-speaking individuals. She is passionate about improving the wellbeing of vulnerable populations, particularly of women and of the Latinx community, as well as addressing injustices and promoting health equity.

Kayla Lesch (she/her) is a rising senior at Boston University, Sargent College studying Health Science and physics. She spent the past year as a Direct Service Volunteer at the mobile health clinic, The Family Van, and was previously the Executive Chair of Social Action at Boston University Hillel. She is passionate about women’s health and feminism and founded the BU club Jewish Empowered Women. Kayla is interested in a career in pediatrics and community health and is looking forward to researching health equity and healthcare delivery through the CK Ready Study. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys hiking and reading historical fiction.

Somayya Upal is a second-year in the Accelerated Seven-Year Liberal Arts/Medical Education Program at Boston University. After completing her degree in Medical Sciences, she'll study at Boston University School of Medicine. She aspires to become an emergency physician, a passion catalyzed by her internship at Rochester Regional Hospital's ER and her work as a scribe in Grey Nuns Community Hospital's ER. She is passionate about community service and social justice. She's volunteered for over 4 years in urban hospitals, ambulances, and at the Crisis Nursery, where she cares for children whose families are in urgent situations.
